161 Washington Street: The Convent

Served as the Convent for St. Mary's Church from the 1920s-70s.  In the beginning of the 20th century it was the home of industrialist Jame Ide, a collar manufacturer whose business helped give Troy its nickname "The Collar City."  It was remodeled by H.H. Richardson's former assistant, H. Langford Warren in the Richardson Romanesque style.  The renovation from Italianate to the current style was a wedding gift for the bride of Mr. Patterson, a New York Legislator.
